One year since January 2020 when COVID-19 Pandemic started killing people around the globe and now we are facing the worst part – the mutation of the virus with different variants, UK, South African, Brazilian and Philippine variants.
Governments of the world including Philippines, have started the roll out of vaccines but to prioritize the medical health workers and other frontliners. Vaccine donations and procurements have arrived in the country and hoping the rollout of vaccination program could reach the public at the earliest possible time.
While waiting to be finally vaccinated, what should each of us do to fight Covid-19? Basically, we MUST always follow the government’s health protocols – wear face mask, face shield, social distancing and always wash hands using soap and disinfect with alcohol.
The most important I think we must be aware of, don’t recklessly touch any part of our face and be mindful of proper hygiene. Now, what else we can do while waiting for vaccine rollout – pray and meditate.
Prayers and Meditation have been proven to be very powerful tool against health problems though the process and the outcome is still highly debatable. Some believed any good result could have been the placebo effect of our desire to heal.
Studies have been conducted to prove the power of healing of prayers and meditation. In a report by WebMd.com, Mitchell Krucoff, MD, a cardiovascular specialist at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, N.C. says “[Today,] we’re seeing systematic investigations — clinical research — as well as position statements from professional societies supporting this research, federal subsidies from the NIH, funding from Congress,” he tells WebMD. “All of these studies, all the reports, are remarkably consistent in suggesting the potential measurable health benefit associated with prayer or spiritual interventions.”
On the other hand, Harvard scientist Herbert Benson, MD, has conducted his own studies on prayer. He focuses specifically on meditation, the Buddhist form of prayer, to understand how mind affects body. All forms of prayer, he says, evoke a relaxation response that quells stress, quiets the body, and promotes healing.
With these evidences of research and studies, I believe that prayers and meditation can help us all fight this pandemic. It is my belief that while we are doing everything to fight Covid-19, we should not limit ourselves on the physical aspect but we have to go beyond and try the power of prayers and meditation. One thing more, the healing process starts in the astral realm.
