Could Sun Magnetic Pole Reversal, a Doomsday Scenario?

Doomsayers again want to sow fear in the mind of the people and warn that the magnetic field reversal of the Sun which is happening right now could lead to an ‘apocalyptic’ event on planet Earth and wipe out humanity.

What? Another twisted idea to scare again people and forced them to hide or sell their properties by believing that we are in the ‘final days’ on Earth.

I think it is better tNATGEO SUN POLARITY REVERSALo give the scientists the chance to explain how this sun magnetic pole reversal could affect heavenly bodies in the solar system including planet Earth – and how could affect us.

To make people calm and not to worry so much, scientists pointed out tha the sun’s magnetic field changes polarity approximately every 11 years.

It happens at the peak of each solar cycle as the sun’s inner magnetic dynamo re-organizes itself.  The coming reversal will mark the midpoint of Solar Cycle 24. Half of “solar max” will be behind us, with half yet to come.

Which means this is not the first time that the polarity changes around the Sun when Wilcox Solar Observatory has been observing the sun’s magnetic field since 1975, and its scientists have been converting those numerical measurements into a map that can now be viewed online.

Scientists admit there are ripple effects of Sun magnetic pole reversal such as stormy space weather around planet Earth caused by the sun’s magnetic influence—called the heliosphere—extends far beyond Pluto.

“This change will have ripple effects throughout the solar system,” solar physicist Todd Hoeksema of Stanford University

Playing a central role in solar field reversals is the “current sheet,” a sprawling surface that juts out of the sun’s equator where the sun’s slowly rotating magnetic field induces an electric current.

Solar physicist Phil Scherrer, of Stanford’s Wilcox Solar Observatory, says the sun magnetic polar reversal is a regular part of the solar cycle. “The sun’s polar magnetic fields weaken, go to zero and then emerge again with the opposite polarity.”

Now, what could be the effects of the polarity reversal to our planet Earth? The Solar physicists are saying that the transitions can stir up stormy space weather around planet Earth.

The geometry of the current sheet can also affect Earth’s exposure to cosmic rays, which are high-energy particles accelerated to the speed of light by supernova explosions and other violent events in the galaxy.

Cosmic rays pose a threat to astronauts and space probes, and some researchers say they might also affect the cloudiness and climate of Earth.

The sun’s current sheet functions as a barrier to cosmic rays, preventing them from penetrating into the inner solar system. And a wavy, crinkly current sheet appears to create a better shield against these energetic particles.

We are all concerned about these effects especially to human lives like the astronauts and all habitants of the Earth, though our local weather/meteorological agency PAGASA says ” we have nothing to worry about the Sun magnetic polar reversal.”

I think most of us worry about the effects of the sun magnetic polarity reversal to our electronic communications systems which we normally experience during solar storms and coronary mass ejections.

NASA Astrophysicist Dr. Lika Guhathakurta says “we expect greater number of solar storms that could always have impact on our technologically society.” Watch the video about this:
