People have been asking me this question many times since I started the Paranormal and Psychic Phenomena research in 1998, even in my broadcast program Misteryo.

Do we really have to trust the Elemental or Nature spirits also known as (aka) engkanto, maligno o elemento in Filipino dialect?

My answer is “both” – we have to trust those we consider benevolent spirits and protect ourselves (be on guard) against those deceptive ones.

Of course we need to re-assess ourselves how we deal with them especially nowadays, the borderline between our reality and their dimension is very thin, the reason why they can easily manifest to our physical world and meddling with human lives.

I have written a Tagalog article titled “Mga Karanasan sa Engkanto Dumarami” (Increasing Number of Encounters with Elementals) about frequent manifestations of Elemental spirits in our reality, the reason why most people now could feel, hear and see their presence.

Dealing with them is knowing their true nature and identifying their kind in the Elemental Kingdom.

In a book written by Philippines’ Foremost Paranormal Expert Professor Jaime “Jimmy” Licauco titled Dwarves and Other Nature Spirits: Their Importance to Man – elementals or nature spirits were classified and described by Western scientist Paracelsus.

Paracelsus is a 16th-Century Swiss physician, alchemist, mystic and medical critic, and considered the most original medical thinker and despite his outstanding contributions to medical science, he was also a believer in supernatural things, intuition and the invisible causes of illness.

The doctrine of elementals from the point of view of Paracelsus begins with the following premis: “There are two kinds of flesh, the flesh derived from Adam and the flesh that is not from Adam. The flesh from Adam is coarse, earthly flesh that is tangible and can be held and tied. The flesh not from Adam is subtle and cannot be bound or held because it is not derived from Earth. The flesh from Adam cannot pass through solids, while the flesh not from Adam passes through solid substances and needs no door.”

In my article “The Truth About Nature Spirits of the Elemental Kingdom,” I wrote each element has a corresponding Nature Spirit – the spiritual essence of the particular element.

Nature Spirits are made up of etheric substance that is unique and specific to their particular element. They are living entities resembling humans in shape but inhabiting a world of their own.

The beings in the Elemental Kingdom work primarily on the mental plane and are known as “builders of form.” They are Etheric in nature but they have etheric flesh, blood and bones.

They live, propagate off spring, eat, talk, act, and sleep. They cannot be destroyed by material elements such as fire, air, earth, and water because they are etheric in nature. they are not immortal. When their work is finished they are absorbed back into the ocean of spirit. They do live a very long time–300 to 1,000 years.

Elemental spirits have the power to change their size and appearance almost at will. They
cannot, however, change elements.

To refresh our mind about the true nature of Elemental Spirits, they have FOUR BASIC CLASSIFICATIONS based on the basic elements of nature such as Earth, Water, Air and Fire.

Elemental Earth spirits are those associated with the earth element such as gnomes or dwarves, elves, goblins locally known as enkantos (shiny dark-skinned and red-eyed elementals), mountain devas (enkantadas) and even giants (such as tikbalang, kapre) belong to this category. The earth elementals are said to be protectors of forest, minerals, and mountains.

Elemental Water spirits are associated with the water element  such as nymphs, nixies or mermaids, undines, and naiads. They are known protectors of rivers, streams, falls, springs, fountains, ponds, wells and marshes.

Elemental Fire spirits are those associated with the fire element of nature such as salamanders or fire spirits. These elementals are seen as St. Elmo’s Fire (locally known as santelmo) and even the fire element of volcanoes with the height of 7 to 14 feet.

Elemental Air spirits such as sylphs, fairies and storm devas use air in their manifestations. It is believed that air spirits seldom come down to earth or ground unless invoked but mostly during the manifestations of storms, tornadoes and hurricanes.

Now going back to the question “should we trust the Elemental spirits?” I answered “both” which means yes and no. We can trust those good guyz who really want to help humans evolve and helping us to protect Nature and the Mother Earth in general. We should not trust those who want to destroy the existence of life especially those meddling with human lives.

In my article “Don’t Trust Good Looking Spirits,” I warned people against those elemental spirits visiting in their dreams. Mostly are not aware that those good looking guyz or beautiful women in their dreams (most of the time they appear to be familiar people of the dreamer) are not really benevolent elementals. These elemental spirits eventually trap the astral consciousness of the dreamer and make them slaves in their kingdom.

A 35-year old woman, who claimed she was being abducted by an “encanto” and in captivity for three years,was freed by a known spiritual healer.

Of course we cannot disregard the fact that mostly elemental spirits are guardians of nature and they protect the environment from any threat by man, though we cannot also deny the fact there are some nature spirits that we can label as “pasaway” and they want meddle with human lives.

Though we as humans should respect their existence and always say “tabi-tabi po” to alert them whenever we feel their presence, the elemental spirits should also give respect to humans and stop those actions that could endanger man’s life or enslave them in their kingdom.

It is better to work together for the protection and preservation of nature, rather than warring each other that could destroy life not only in the physical but also in the ethereal world.
